Total Eclipse of the Moon

December 20, 2010
Mahana Astronomy Club, Maui, Hawaii

It was a cloudy night, so we only saw a hazy image of the moon off and on through the clouds.  The first partial phase began at 8:32 PM, totality was from 9:41 to 10:53 PM, and the final partial phase ended at 12:01 AM.  It was too cloudy to see stars or use the telescope.

At 9:28 PM the Earth's shadow covered about 85% of the Moon

When we couldn't see the Moon, we used a flashlight and people to make a model of the eclipse.
We repeated this as each family showed up.

Several families came out during the eclipse and each stayed for a few minutes to observe and learn
